On March 17, 2001, she moved to New York City and worked as a video footage editor NBC and Fox. Career

News Footage Editor

Michelle Buteau was considering a career in journalism before venturing into the comedy business. Originally, she wanted to become a news reporter, but after being told that she didn’t qualify the physical attributes required for the job, she became a news footage editor for NBC and Fox. On September 11, 2001, her career took a traumatic turn when she was asked to view and edit countless hours of disturbing footage of the 9/11 attacks in New York. The news channel offered its editors therapy as they were editing one of the most gruesome videos in the American history, but, instead of going to therapy, Michelle went on to try stand-up comedy to work through her emotionally demanding job.

As a Comedian

Michelle Buteau got ventured into the comedy business in the year 2001, post the 9/11 attacks, and made her first television appearance as a comedian in the year 2005 on Comedy Central’s ‘Premium Blend.’ In 2007, she was included in the showcases for young stand-up comedians at the final HBO U.S. Comedy Arts Festival in Aspen, Colorado. Thereafter, she went on to perform stand-up comedy on various shows such as Best Week Ever, Late Late Show,  Lopez Tonight, Last Comic Standing, The Jenny McCarthy Show, and in several colleges, clubs, and comedy festivals across the United States of America. Buteau was also a part of The Comedy Lineup on Netflix, where upcoming comedians perform a 15-minute stand-up set each. In 2020, her stand-up special, Welcome to Buteaupia, premiered on Netflix.

Television

Michelle Buteau began her acting career with an American sitcom television series, Whitney (2011). Later, she appeared on various other shows, Key and Peele (2012), China, IL (2013), Enlisted (2014), etc. In 2019, she starred in the American comedy television series First Wives Club in which she played the role of ‘Bree Washington.’

In 2019, she made her digital debut with Netflix’s miniseries Tales of the City. In 2020, she hosted an American reality competition series, The Circle.

In 2019, she appeared in the movie ‘Almost Love’ as Cammy, and later in the movie ‘Someone Great’ as ‘Cynthia.’ In the same year, she starred in the movie ‘Always Be My Maybe’ as ‘Veronica,’ which was immensely loved by the audience.

In 2020, she appeared in the movie ‘Work It’ as ‘Veronica Ramirez.’
