Netflix 'Texas Chainsaw Massacre': 5 things you didn't know about Sarah Yarkin

1974 was the year when a low-budget movie changed the horror genre. Titled ‘The Texas Chainsaw Massacre’, the film introduced us to one of the most iconic villains of all time and gave us a horror masterpiece. Four decades later, the slasher movie is still influencing the movies in the genre and Netflix is trying to expand the franchise with a sequel to the original film.

Netflix’s ‘Texas Chainsaw Massacre’ revolves around Melody (Sarah Yarkin), her teenage sister Lila (Elsie Fisher), and their friends Dante (Jacob Latimore) and Ruth (Nell Hudson), heading to the remote town of Harlow, Texas to start an idealistic new business venture. However, all their dreams turn into a nightmare when they disrupt the home of Leatherface. Will they be able to save themselves from the serial killer?

Sarah Yarkin as Melody

Born on May 28, 1993, Sarah Yarkin began her career by acting in several short films, including ‘Dream Girl’ and ‘Felly’. In 2015, she made her TV debut with the series ‘The Middle’ and had a cameo appearance. Her first major acting role came in 2017 when she was cast as Peg in the series ‘Foursome’. Since then, she has been seen playing pivotal roles on TV shows such as ‘Single Parents’, ‘Motherland: Fort Salem’, and ‘Borrasca’.

Her feature film debut happened in 2019 with ‘Happy Death Day 2U’. 

Elsie Fisher as Lila

The young actress is undoubtedly one of the brightest talents in the industry and began working at the age of 6. In 2009, she made her acting debut with the TV series ‘Medium’ and played the Young Bridgette DuBoisn on the show. Meanwhile, in 2010, she voiced the character of Agnes in the ‘Despicable Me’ movie. She also voiced the character in its sequel ‘Despicable Me 2’.

However, her moment of glory came in 2018 when she was cast as Kayla Day in the movie ‘Eighth Grade’. The movie turned out to be really successful and garnered positive reviews. She was nominated for the Best Actress accolade by more than 20 critics associations and was also nominated for a Golden Globe. 

Mark Burnham as Leatherface

Burnham becomes the ninth actor to play the iconic role of Leatherface in ‘Texas Chainsaw Massacre’ franchise. The actor began his career by doing a lot of theatre plays and went to make appearances in several movies and TV shows. In 1998, he portrayed the character of Quint in the TV series ‘The Magnificent Seven’. Since then, Burnham has featured on projects like ‘Buffy the Vampire Slayer’, ‘Black Cloud’, ‘The F-List’, ‘Lowlife’, and ‘Snowfall’. 

Jacob Latimore as Dante

Although he started his career by doing several cameo roles on TV shows, Latimore was destined to be a big star and he didn’t disappoint. After making his acting debut on the TV show ‘One Tree Hill’, the actor went on to act in projects like ‘The Maze Runner’ and ‘Collateral Beauty’, which starred Will Smith, Kate Winslet, Helen Mirren, and Naomie Harris in pivotal roles.

Since 2018, Latimore has been one of the main cast members of Showtime’s blockbuster show ‘The Chi’ and has garnered a lot of praise for his acting skills. 

Nell Hudson as Ruth

Born on November 19, 1990, Hudson loved the art of acting and always wanted to be an actor. She made her acting debut in 2012 with the TV series ‘Holby City’ and went on to play supporting roles in TV shows such as ‘Call the Midwife’, ‘Crossing Lines’, and ‘Agatha Raisin’.

Hudson’s first major acting role came in the 2014 series ‘Outlander’. Meanwhile, in 2016, she played the role of Skerrett on ‘Victoria’. She received the Best Actress nomination at the British Independent Film Festival Award for the movie ‘Jewels’.

Olwen Fouere as Sally Hardesty

Born on March 2, 1954, Olwen Fouere has been a part of the industry since 1980 and worked on over 45 projects over the years. Since then, Olwen has appeared on ‘The Sleep of Death’, ‘Screen Two’, ‘Space Tuckers’, ‘Saltwater’, ‘The Survivalist’, ‘Striking Out’, ‘Cursed’, and ‘Holding’. 

'Texas Chainsaw Massacre' will be premiering exclusively on Netflix on Friday, February 18.
